Laurie Whalin was named President of New Hanover Regional Medical Center and Acute Care Operations for Novant Health’s Coastal Region in February 2025 and as of April 2026 is serving in an interim expanded leadership role for the region. She previously served as Chief Operating Officer and President of future Scotts Hill Medical Center since February of 2022. Prior to that Laurie served in a variety of senior leadership roles including President/COO of Brunswick Medical Center with Novant Health. In this role, she also oversaw regional responsibilities for the Coastal Region which included pharmacy, radiology, lab/respiratory, cancer services and neurosciences. Laurie received her B.S. in Marine Biology at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington and her Doctor of Pharmacy from Campbell University. She had been with New Hanover Regional Medical Center for 16 years serving in a variety of leadership roles including the Vice President of Clinical Services prior to the partnership with Novant Health. Laurie serves on the New Hanover County Health and Human Services Board of Directors, the YMCA of Southeastern North Carolina Board of Directors, as well as is a fellow and an active member of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
